Professor Steven Ersser, PhD (Lond), BSc (Hon), RGN, CertTHEd
Professor Ersser is currently working at Bournemouth University as Professor of Nursing Development and Skin Care Research. Since joining in 2007, he has been involved in leading the development of the new Centre for Wellbeing and Quality of Life and a programme of work in skincare and skin health. He is also a Visiting Professor at the University of Southampton. He has worked both within the NHS and at Universities, integrating clinical nursing or practice development work with academic activity. Particular research interests include examining effective psychological and educational support by nurses to those living with chronic skin conditions to improve wellbeing and quality of life.
Professor Ersser co-founded the International Skin Care Nursing Group (ISNG) and chairs the Advisory Group. His focus is on developing research, development and educational opportunities within the field of dermatology nursing through the ISNG, the British Dermatological Nursing Group, the Dermatology Nursing Association (USA) and through patient charity scientific committees. He has held clinical positions in dermatology nursing in Oxford and Southampton. In 2006, he was awarded the Stone Award by the British Dermatological Nursing Group for his contribution to evidence-based dermatology nursing internationally.
